Changes 9/29/14

Ruby:

Java:

  • Learned more about big O notation and mapping out the amount of time it takes functions to run.
  • I'm having trouble understanding some of the things they are doing, so I'll have to talk to you tomorrow about it, since I'm out of time today
  • Forgot to look at the safari book, I'll do that tomorrow as well

  2. Let's see what the Safari book (and the one you have in class) have to say by way of presentation of Big-O notation. It is a challenging concept to wrap your head around, due to its combination of "fuzziness" and formalism (I like to think of it as formalism in the service of intentional fuzziness).

I always made it my practice, back those oh so many years ago when I was learning this (when the dinosaurs roamed the earth, as my friend Kevin Reed is fond of saying), to read several sources on the topic. I found looking at it from multiple points of view really helped me make sense of it.

I eagerly await your evaluation of the three sources at your immediate disposal in this regard.
